Our mission is to promote successful second chances, provide opportunities, reduce recidivism, and enhance the well-being of our community.
Focus Reentry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was founded to serve the needs of people in the Boulder County Jail before, during, and after their release and reentry into the community. As we began our work with those returning to our community, we recognized the many barriers to success such as homelessness, poverty, mental health and substance use issues. In addition, many of our clients faced systemic barriers because they are members of the BIPOC, Lanitx, and/or the LGBTQ communities. We built our programs and grew our organization so that we could help each client address their greatest barriers to success!
Now, we operate three programs: The Mentor Program, The One Stop Shop Focus on Housing Program, and our newest program Building Home Peer Support. Our Mentor Program starts with people in jail and helps them with housing, benefits, and basic needs related to successful reentry.
The One Stop Shop Focus on Housing Program targets those who are caught in the cycle of homelessness and incarceration. Each participant is assisted with finding a stable place to live so they can live a life free from incarceration.
Building Home is our newest addition. In this program we match people who are newly housed from homelessness with a peer who has the same lived experience. Each peer assists their client with understanding how to follow rules, how to be a good neighbor, and provides a social and community connection, so that their second chance at housing can be a success!
Our staff and our dedicated volunteers help people in all three programs stabilize, achieve self-sufficiency, and rebuild their lives during the challenging and critical period(s) of reentry and/or returning to a home. With support and advocacy that can begin in jail, transition to the streets, and continue to a stable home – our clients gain the benefit of champions in the community, and are able to make profound changes in their lives.
